I paint in oil on stretched canvas and in pastel or charcoal on quality acid free paper using a good clear photo or photos for reference.  The photos can be of a favorite place, your home or a beloved pet. Reference photos can be sent by email or regular mail.  They can be on a CD or can be actual prints.  A duplicate of the original print is best as it is always possible for a photo to get lost in the mail and high-quality duplicates can be made from a print at most photo processing centers without the need for negatives.

It is best to include more than one photo for any painting.  For pet portraits in particular, you may have a good photo that is the perfect pose and expression but might not show the true color of the animal.  If you include other shots that you can mark as being the true color, I can use a combination of the good pose and the best one for color.  Please visit Photo Tips to help you in determining the best photo for a portrait.

Once the photo is agreed upon, the next thing is to determine whether you want a head & neck painting or a full body pose.   I usually paint a non-descript background so as not to take away from the subject but if a special setting is desired, I will be happy to include it for an additional fee.  The fee will be determined based on my estimate of the time it will take me to paint the scene. All portrait prices depend on size and complexity of the painting and are for unmatted and unframed artwork.

Once I have completed the portrait, I will send a picture via email (or standard mail if needed) for your approval.  Full payment is due when you pick up your painting or before it is shipped. Any mailed prints will be returned at that time.  If it needs to be shipped, the client will pay shipping costs.
